‘Back and Forth. Nasan Tur’ is a solo exhibition exploring how various aspects of democracy, such as freedom of the press and political debate, are becoming increasingly susceptible to attacks. In his new artistic production Nasan Tur draws attention to questions about forgetting, remembering, intimacy and representation. The exhibition features new works including  ‘Memory as Resistance’ (2017-2019), a series dealing with the arrests and assassinations of journalists worldwide, beside the sound artwork ‘Speech’ (2017) that has been commissioned by documenta 14. ‘Speech’ is the audio track of speeches of powerful politicians. Tur cuts off the entire spoken language out of the speeches. What remains is the sound between the spoken words, like breathing, swallowing and sighing. This intimate body sounds change the image of those power figures into vulnerable human beings.
