After exhibitions in 2006, 2009 and 2012 ‘Tropicalization ‘ is Andy Wauman’s fourth one-man show in Otegem. Since about two years Andy Wauman (born in Wilrijk, Belgium in 1975) mainly lives in Bali, where his poetic-anarchist art has been influenced by what he himself describes as a kind of ‘tropicalization’. Influenced by the world and culture of surfing, by feeling free on a remote island, the tropical climate and a life within nature, the character of his art has become a bit more playful. And as a consequence of his contact with local craftsmen, the artist started experimenting with  a number of new technics and materials. But even when Wauman has exchanged his skateboard for a surfboard, the ambiguity, anger and romance, his art is known for, persist. Just like the importance of language for his artistic practice in general.
