Matthew Lutz-Kinoy - Meadows on the grid float, and a playlist, a collaboration with Dena Yago

27 October - 08 December 2013

For the exhibition ‘Meadows on the grid float’, Deweer Gallery displays objects of Lutz-Kinoy’s practice that give visibility to what he calls a ‘space outside’. In the form of sculpture, drawing, printmaking and large format painting, these objects form a series of windows that open a fissure in time. The exhibition space is not an endpoint or a self defined location but participates in a constellation of collaborative fragments. The works presented are indexes of events that the artist has organized and performed within, and what we see on display is the work taking pause, giving space for the viewer to take in the view and look out on the horizon.

Short biography

‘Meadows on the grid float’ is Lutz-Kinoy’s second show at Deweer Gallery. ‘Say it with flowers’, in 2011, was his first show at the gallery and in Belgium.

In 2012, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy took part in ‘Beyond Imagination’, the opening show of the new Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, presented ‘Keramikos 2’ at Elaine / Museum für Gegenwartskunst Basel - coproduced by Deweer Gallery - after which the show traveled to Villa Romana in Florence (2012) and Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2013). In 2011 he made a show at Silberkuppe, Berlin and the performance ‘Donna Haraway’s Expanded Benefits Package’ (with SOPHIE

and Chelsea Culp), which was staged at the New Museum Theater in New York and at Trouw night club in Amsterdam with the Stedelijk Museum.

In 2010 and 2011 he was artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Screenings of his films have been organized at a.o. Whitechapel Gallery in Londen (2010), Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, and the New Museum in New York (both 2009).
