Hans Vandekerckhove - Paintings 1986-2007
03 May - 21 June 2009
Hans Vandekerckhove's art is the result of introspective concentration and evolution rather than a reaction on existing styles or trends. The central element in the work of Hans Vandekerckhove is to contemplate things in order to transform an everyday reality into a poetic world of motionless beauty. Over the years the artist's style has developed into a highly personal and recognisable language. The large solo-exhibition "Stalking Hiëronymus" at the PMMK (Ostend BE), curated by director Willy Van den Bussche in 2003 was followed by a solo-show at S.M.A.K. (Ghent, BE) in 2007, curated by director Philippe Van Cauteren. Both shows have given a larger audience the chance to discover Hans Vandekerckhove's work, which was collected by several leading institutions and private collections in Belgium and abroad. This show gives an overview of the oeuvre he developed since the beginning of his career.
