-Speech- is the audio track of speeches of powerful politicians.
Tur cuts off the entire spoken language out of the speeches. What remains is the sound between the spoken words.
Breathing, swallowing, sighing, smacking,…
This intimate body sounds change the image of those power figures into fragil and vulnerable human beings.
For a long period of time, Nasan Tur has been focusing his research on the power of one of the most important political vehicles: speeches. Composition, structure, rhythm, emphasis—he explores how speeches have been presented over television, social media, and radio and how they follow the zeitgeist, satisfying the cultural and ideological preferences of the recipients. Tur’s work can be considered as an approach to revealing the complex function of political speeches and their effects.
